Powering smart, connected, service oriented devices
Kevin Dallas, General Manager, Windows Embedded Business Unit
Microsoft Corporation

The age of the intelligent device has reached technical and economic viability. Today all Internet users are people. Tomorrow billions of intelligent devices operating on behalf of people and institutions will dominate the Internet, delivering instant and seamless access to information, entertainment and productivity services. This will create a new world of "Connected Experiences" for users, and new business models and opportunities for OEMs, Enterprises, and Service Providers. This keynote will describe the challenges and opportunities of this new world, and how Microsoft and our partners are working to make Windows Embedded the platform of choice for this new generation of "Smart, Connected, Service Oriented Devices".

China's Transformation to Innovation Powerhouse
David B. Bell, President and Chief Executive Officer
Intersil Corporation

During the last decade China has become the world's factory -- regardless of where product concepts and designs originate, a huge percentage of the world's goods are made in China. Key to this success is China's exceptional ability to drive prices down while increasing volume output. However, this mindset emphasizes price at the expense of innovation and performance.

China is now on the cusp of a new phase as it transitions from being the manufacturing center of the world to becoming a leading engineering center. With this shift, China is increasingly designing products, and these products are competing in the world market against those designed in America, Japan and Europe. The creativity of the Chinese engineering community and its strong academic institutions are helping to drive this change. But this transition also requires a shift in focus from price alone to the overall value of components such as integrated circuits. Intersil, a leader in high performance analog ICs, is changing the way in conducts business in order to support this Chinese transformation.
